London: The Iraqi public and private sectors have entered into a series of memoranda of understanding with British companies across several fields during a ceremony held in London. The event was attended by Iraqi Deputy Prime Ministers, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, and the Minister of Oil.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the ceremony featured the signing of an MoU between the Ministry of Construction and Housing’s General Water Department and the consulting firm IHS. This agreement focuses on experimental studies for a comprehensive water agreement. In addition, the Trade Bank of Iraq (TBI) signed an MoU with Standard Chartered Bank.

The event also saw Al-Rida Group partnering with the British James Cubitt Company on Basra water projects. An ammonia supply contract was inked with the same British company for establishing a black urea project aimed at the Iraqi private sector. Additional agreements included Jaguar Land Rover’s plan to open a branch in Basra Governorate and a separate MoU concerning the desalination of Basra water.

Further, Iraqi firm Noor Al Hilal Company signed a memorandum with the British company Evono Pool to establish chlorine and soda factories. Another memorandum was signed by the Iraqi Najjah Investor Company with Evono Pool for the supply of chlorine and soda.

In the realm of scientific cooperation, Al-Mamoun University College entered into an MoU with SOAS University for Middle Eastern Studies. This agreement will facilitate the exchange of missions and joint cooperation, marking the first such economic and academic partnership between an Iraqi private university and a renowned British institution.
