Baghdad: The Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs has renewed its call for the international community to recognize the atrocities committed against the Yazidis by ISIS as acts of genocide, stressing the need for enhanced global cooperation to recover the abducted and ensure justice for the victims.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, in a statement marking the anniversary of the genocide committed against the Yazidi community and other Iraqi minorities, the ministry said: “With deep sorrow and grief, we commemorate the heinous crimes perpetrated by ISIS terrorists against innocent civilians. We reaffirm our strong condemnation of these atrocities.”

The ministry expressed its deep solidarity with the victims and their families, emphasizing the importance of international acknowledgment of these violations as systematic genocide and serious crimes against humanity.

It also reaffirmed its ongoing efforts to support survivors and their families, to work on the return of the abducted, and to ensure they receive their rights under Yazidi Female Survivors Law No. (8) of 2021, through Iraqi embassies and consulates abroad.

The Foreign Ministry reiterated its call on all countries and international organizations to officially recognize these crimes as genocide and to strengthen joint efforts to prevent such tragedies from recurring.

The statement concluded with the ministry’s commitment to continuing its pursuit of justice, securing international recognition of the genocide, and advancing the path of recovery and reparation for those affected by these horrific crimes.
