Iraqi Government Vows Commitment to Resolving Missing Kuwaitis Issue


Baghdad:Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein has reaffirmed the government’s determination to address the matter of missing Kuwaiti persons and property with complete transparency and responsibility.



According to National Iraqi News Agency, Hussein met with Mary Yamashita, the High-Level Representative of the UN Secretary-General for the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 2792 (2025). During the meeting, he expressed Iraq’s appreciation for Yamashita’s efforts and emphasized Iraq’s commitment to the resolution and its cooperation with the United Nations, Kuwait, the International Committee of the Red Cross, and the Tripartite Commission.



The discussions focused on recent developments and ongoing efforts at political, technical, and operational levels concerning the missing Kuwaiti persons and property. Hussein assured that Iraq is doing everything possible to uncover the fate of the missing individuals and locate their remains, highlighting the readiness of Iraqi authorities to continue joint field operations.



Both parties stressed the importance of transparency and coordination between Iraq and Kuwait. They emphasized the need to identify materials and archives more precisely to facilitate effective efforts by Iraqi authorities and achieve progress.



Hussein acknowledged the essential role of the High-Level Coordinator in aiding communication between Iraq, Kuwait, and international bodies, and in overcoming any technical obstacles to progress. Yamashita expressed gratitude for the cooperation from the Iraqi side and committed to conveying Iraq’s position to Kuwait during her upcoming visit, aiming for a resolution and tangible progress.
