Baghdad: The Ports Committee at the Ministry of Transport is actively exploring strategies to boost the national carrier’s role and streamline trade exchange areas. The General Company for Land Transport convened with the Border Crossings and National Product Protection Committee to deliberate on critical matters concerning border crossing operations and the mechanisms for regulating trade and transport.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the meeting featured the participation of Murtadha Karim Al-Shahmani, the Director General of the General Company for Land Transport, alongside representatives from pertinent government bodies. Discussions centered on revenue collection processes from both government institutions and contracted companies, underscoring the need for explicit financial and administrative procedures. The focus was on ensuring these procedures align with applicable legal frameworks to enhance transparency and protect public funds.

The dialogue also extended to the current state of land transport at border crossings, highlighting the need to activate the national land carriers’ role significantly. This move aims to bolster the movement of goods and trade across borders, thus supporting the national economy and improving the competitiveness of Iraq’s transport sector.

Furthermore, the organization and activation of trade exchange areas at border crossings were emphasized. Such measures are intended to ensure broader participation of the national sector, regulate the movement of trucks and goods, improve procedural efficiency, and facilitate smoother trade flows through the crossings.
