Iraqi Oil Tankers Company Transports Two Million Barrels of Crude Beyond Strait of Hormuz

Accra:The Iraqi Oil Tankers Company has successfully transported two million barrels of Iraqi crude oil using a Very Large Crude Carrier (VLCC) to a destination beyond the Strait of Hormuz. This marks a significant development, as it is the first time in decades that such an operation has been carried out.

According to Iraqi News Agency, this initiative was conducted under the directives of the Prime Minister and the supervision of the Oil Minister. The company was tasked with moving a portion of Iraqi oil sales operations from the traditional model at Basra Port to a delivery model beyond the Strait of Hormuz.

Ali Qais, the Director General of the company, stated that discussions with specialized firms led to the successful securing of a VLCC. The carrier was loaded with two million barrels of crude oil, allowing the Oil Marketing Company (SOMO) to take advantage of improved sales and pricing opportunities.

In addition, Qais mentioned ongoing efforts to consult with relevant authorities to quickly identify opportunities for purchasing and owning specialized crude oil tankers. This initiative aims to enhance the Iraqi Oil Tankers Company’s capabilities, enabling it to compete more effectively with similar companies in the region.
