Iraqi Parliament Initiates Presidential Election Procedures

Baghdad: The Iraqi Parliament commenced its procedures for electing the President of the Republic on Saturday. The Parliament's Media Office announced in a press release received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA) that the legislative body has officially started the process to elect the nation's new president.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, earlier in the day, the Media Office confirmed that Speaker of Parliament Haibat al-Halbousi opened the proceedings of Session No. (17) of the sixth electoral term. This session, part of the first legislative year and first legislative chapter, is specifically dedicated to the election of the President of the Republic. The session witnessed the presence of 223 members of parliament, marking a significant step in the electoral process.
