Basra: The General Company for Iraqi Ports has launched a two-day specialized workshop aimed at bolstering compliance with the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) requirements. This initiative focuses on the mandatory audit and reviews the progress of Iraq’s corrective action plan, reinforcing the nation’s commitment to adhering to global maritime agreements and standards.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Captain Alaa Al-Akeeli, the Director General of the General Company for Iraqi Ports, emphasized the ongoing efforts to enhance cooperation with the IMO. He stated that these efforts contribute significantly to improving performance efficiency, ensuring maritime navigation safety, and strengthening the status of Iraqi ports on both regional and international fronts.

Captain Al-Akeeli further highlighted that the company is making steady progress in fulfilling the requirements of the corrective action plan for the IMO mandatory audit. This involves developing institutional procedures, improving the skills of maritime and technical staff, and promoting a culture of compliance with international standards, in alignment with the Ministry of Transport’s vision for the advancement of the ports sector.
