Baghdad:President of the Republic Nizar Amidi emphasized Iraq’s unwavering commitment to its independence and unified decision-making on Wednesday.

According to Iraqi News Agency, President Amidi conveyed his message on the occasion of Sovereignty Day, congratulating the Iraqi people and reiterating that the country’s sovereignty, independent national decision-making, and territorial unity are inviolable principles. He stressed that these principles, alongside the will of the Iraqi people, form the basis for the nation’s present and future direction.

Amidi highlighted the importance of a strong state with robust institutions and the rule of law, emphasizing that the state should have exclusive authority over sovereign decisions. He noted that decisions regarding peace and war rest solely with the state and its constitutional institutions. Furthermore, he pointed out the need for state control over weaponry and adherence to constitutional provisions as essential for safeguarding sovereignty and maintaining stability.

The president renewed his call for political and national forces to prioritize the unity of Iraqi decision-making and the state’s supreme interests. He urged these groups to strengthen national cohesion and prevent internal conflicts and political disputes.

With the conclusion of the International Coalition’s mission in Iraq, Amidi remarked that the country is entering a new phase of international relations based on full sovereignty, balanced partnerships, and non-interference in internal affairs. He expressed Iraq’s intention to broaden its political, economic, trade, and cultural ties globally.

On Sovereignty Day, President Amidi paid tribute to Iraq’s martyrs from various forces who sacrificed their lives against the terrorist group Daesh. He expressed gratitude to all who contributed to defending and securing the nation.
