Baghdad: The Ministry of Oil has announced a significant development in Iraq’s energy sector with the signing of a contract to develop the Mansouriya gas field, boasting a capacity of 300 cubic meters per day. Deputy Prime Minister for Energy Affairs and Minister of Oil, Hayan Abdul-Ghani Al-Sawad, revealed that the contracts from the fifth and sixth supplementary licensing rounds are projected to add more than 850 cubic meters of gas per day and approximately 750,000 barrels of crude oil.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, this signing was conducted at the Ministry’s headquarters and marks a historic moment for both the ministry and Diyala Governorate. The contract was finalized with a coalition of Chinese companies, Jera and Petro Iraq, emphasizing the importance of adherence to development timelines and proper contract implementation. Al-Sawad further noted the ministry’s recent success in signing 14 contracts within the fifth and sixth supplementary licensing rounds, reflecting a significant achievement for the Ministry of Oil and the government in gas investment, in line with the government program. The contracts are expected to increase Iraq’s financial resources and contribute to the national economy’s growth.
Mohammed Yassin Hassan, Director General of the Central Oil Company, stated that the contract’s signing aligns with Deputy Prime Minister Al-Sawad’s focus on gas sector investment. He emphasized the ministry’s commitment to maximizing Iraq’s financial revenues, with initial production expected to begin at 100 cubic meters and eventually exceed 300 cubic meters per day, feeding the Mansouriya gas station. The development of dry gas fields is seen as a crucial shift in Diyala Governorate’s gas sector.
Lee Waibin, Managing Director of Jera, expressed satisfaction with
the contract and affirmed that implementation would proceed within the agreed timeframe.
