Baghdad: Iraq's Chief Justice Faiq Zidan has emphasized that the first session of the new parliament must conclude with the election of its speaker and deputies.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, Zidan met with PUK leader Bafel Talabani on Saturday, stressing the importance of respecting constitutional timelines for electing the presidential and parliamentary leadership to complete the formation of legislative and executive authorities. "The first session on December 29, 2025, must finalize the election of the speaker and deputies," Zidan said, adding that postponement is not constitutionally or legally permissible. He also highlighted the need to decide on the presidential candidate within 30 days of electing the parliamentary leadership.
