Baghdad: Chief Justice Faiq Zidane affirmed that the Iraqi judiciary remains a bulwark of the constitution, enhancing citizens' confidence and enshrining the principle of the rule of law. During the celebration held in Baghdad to mark the centenary of the first constitution in Iraq, Zidane said: "We meet today on an immortal national occasion, in which we recall one hundred years of the constitutional history of the Iraqi state, since the issuance of the Basic Law of 1925, which laid the foundations for building a modern state based on constitutional legitimacy, respect for rights, and the independence of authorities."

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Zidane added, "Since that day, the Constitution has constituted the supreme guarantor of the state's unity and the source of the legitimacy of its institutions. It has defined the relationship between the authorities and defined their responsibilities, with the citizen as the goal and justice as the path. Under its shadow, rights are safeguarded, freedoms are exercised securely, and the state derives its prestige from its commitment to it."

The Council President pointed out that the judiciary has, since that date, been one of the pillars of the state, a witness and partner in its development process, and a faithful guardian of the Constitution and the rule of law. In its name, the scales have been stabilized, justice has triumphed over chaos, and human dignity and freedoms have been preserved. Throughout its contemporary history, the Supreme Judicial Council has played a pivotal role in consolidating the independence of the judiciary, developing its institutions, and building a judicial system that derives its strength from the Constitution and operates in accordance with its spirit and letter, so that justice remains the hallmark and prestige of the state.

He continued, "The Constitutional Centennial is not a celebration of a bygone era, but rather a renewal of the pledge to the Constitution as the ultimate guarantee of citizens' rights and the bulwark that protects the state from tampering and encroachment. Therefore, the coincidence of this celebration with the approaching parliamentary elections on November 11, 2025, sends an important signal that all political parties and figures are committed to implementing the Constitution, which is based on the peaceful transfer of power through the ballot box."

Judge Faiq Zidane concluded his remarks by reiterating "the pledge that the Iraqi judiciary will remain a bulwark of the Constitution, strengthening citizens' confidence in the judiciary and enshrining the principle of the rule of law in all aspects of the state. Iraq will remain a state of law and institutions."
