Nasiriyah: The Ministry of Justice has successfully completed the first phase of its electronic bracelet project aimed at regulating financial transactions within correctional facilities.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Ministry announced that three thousand (3000) electronic bracelets, which are linked to special payment cards, have been issued to inmates of Nasiriyah Central Prison. This development follows the completion of all technical and administrative requirements for the project, in collaboration with the Iraqi Agricultural Bank. The initiative is part of the Ministry’s broader efforts to enhance digital transformation and improve services within correctional institutions.

The new system will facilitate buying and selling transactions within prison canteens, ensuring that financial transactions are conducted electronically with accuracy and transparency. The system records the value of each purchase directly, contributing to reduced price manipulation, the adoption of true prices, and improved oversight of financial transactions within the facility.

The Ministry of Justice plans to issue additional electronic bracelets in the coming days, with the aim of including all inmates of Nasiriyah Central Prison in the electronic system. This move is seen as a preparatory step towards extending the system to other correctional facilities.

The Ministry has urged the families of inmates to start implementing the new procedures and regulations. The electronic system is designed to streamline deposit and purchase processes, ensuring that funds are securely and systematically transferred to inmates’ accounts. This aligns with the Ministry’s ongoing efforts to develop the correctional environment and enhance the quality of services provided.
