Baghdad:Kurdistan Democratic Party leader Masoud Barzani emphasized the importance of coordination with the federal government to address potential threats.
According to Iraqi News Agency, Barzani praised the Global Coalition’s efforts in fighting terrorism and contributing to Iraq’s stability. He noted that an agreement between the coalition and the Iraqi government marked September 30, 2026, as the end of the coalition’s mission in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.
Barzani acknowledged the coalition’s support for Iraqi forces and the Peshmerga in combating terrorism and maintaining stability. He expressed gratitude for the coalition’s contributions and sacrifices, stating that the responsibility now lies with Iraq and the Kurdistan Region to form bilateral agreements with coalition countries to ensure continued stability.
Barzani extended appreciation to the coalition forces for their role in defeating the Islamic State, emphasizing their efforts were highly valued. He honored the memory of the Peshmerga, Iraqi, and coalition forces who lost their lives, asserting that their sacrifices would be eternally remembered.
He addressed concerns regarding the coalition’s departure, reassuring the people of Kurdistan about the strong coordination with the Iraqi government to counter any threats, including those posed by ISIS or other entities. Barzani warned any group considering threatening the region that the Peshmerga forces are prepared to defend the region.
Barzani highlighted the historical significance of the Peshmerga forces, rooted in the Kurdish struggle for freedom, and affirmed their readiness, in coordination with Iraqi federal forces, to defend the country and preserve stability against any threats.
