Erbil: Kurdish bloc MPs have called for the formation of a special committee to investigate and uncover the circumstances surrounding the attacks targeting areas and facilities within the Kurdistan Region, identify those responsible, and hold them accountable according to the law.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the head of the Kurdistan Democratic Party bloc, MP Shakhwan Abdullah, stated in a joint press conference that the Kurdistan Region always strives to avoid being part of the tensions and unrest plaguing the region. The region has worked through diplomatic efforts to consolidate peace and stability, particularly in Iraq. However, the region has recently been subjected to a series of attacks carried out by armed groups operating outside the law and the authority of the state.
He added that information presented during security meetings indicates that most attacks were launched from areas near federal military and security forces’ deployment sites. This raises suspicions about the presence of undisciplined armed groups operating outside the state’s authority, suspected to be behind these attacks.
