Large-Scale Russian Attack on Kyiv as Zelensky Prepares for US Visit

Kyiv: The Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, was subjected to a large-scale Russian attack early Saturday morning. Explosions were heard in the city, and air defense systems were activated, while the Ukrainian army announced the deployment of missiles.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Russian attack comes two days before a meeting that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky says he is scheduled to hold in the United States with US President Donald Trump to finalize an agreement to end the nearly four-year-long war between Russia and Ukraine.

The Ukrainian Air Force reported on its social media accounts that it had detected drone and missile movements over several Ukrainian regions, including the capital. More than four years after the outbreak of the Russian-Ukrainian war, talks have accelerated in recent weeks aimed at finding a solution to the conflict based on a plan proposed by Trump.

After Ukrainians and Europeans deemed the plan heavily biased toward Russia, Zelensky presented a revised version this week. The new version calls for freezing the current front line without offering an immediate solution to Russia’s demands, which include control over more than 19% of Ukraine’s territory.
