Baghdad: The head of the Security Media Cell, Lieutenant General Dr. Saad Maan, conducted a visit to the Airport Security and Protection Directorate to review the efforts being made to secure Iraqi airports. During the visit, Lieutenant General Maan was briefed on the work of the directorate, which plays a crucial role in maintaining airport safety across the country.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Lieutenant General Maan met with Major General Dr. Haider Ghali, the Director of the Directorate, who provided an overview of the tasks and duties undertaken by the directorate. The briefing covered the operational mechanisms in place to protect various components of the airports and strengthen security measures.

The Airport Security and Protection Directorate is tasked with securing Iraqi airports, starting from external checkpoints and entrances, extending to airport buildings and aircraft parking areas. Additionally, the directorate ensures smooth passenger flow and oversees the operation of baggage screening equipment to enhance security and safety within the airports.

Furthermore, the directorate supervises air cargo operations and monitors the movement of shipments, both incoming and outgoing, adhering to established security procedures. This comprehensive approach contributes to the safety of passengers, staff, facilities, and property at the airports.

Baghdad International Airport is notably among the first airports where security systems are now fully managed by Iraqi officers and personnel. Previously, these systems required significant resources for protection. Currently, Iraqi security personnel are responsible for overseeing all aspects of airport security across the country.

Over the past two years, the directorate has demonstrated strong security performance with no recorded breaches within the Ministry of Interior’s jurisdiction. This achievement highlights the preparedness, discipline, and progress attained by the Iraqi airport security and protection system.
