Baghdad: Independent Kurdish politician Mahmoud Othman believes that the parliamentary elections will be held on schedule, unless this happens.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, Othman stated that preparations for the upcoming parliamentary elections are currently underway without any problems, and the elections will be held on their scheduled date of November 11, 2025, unless the United States and Israel target Iran and armed factions in Iraq.
He explained that targeting leaders of armed factions in Iraq is very likely following the recent announcement by the Israeli Prime Minister at the United Nations that they would launch strikes against Israel. Othman pointed out that the involvement of armed factions in the upcoming war between Iran on the one hand and the United States and Israel on the other would expose Iraq to violent airstrikes.
Regarding the formation of the Kurdistan Regional Government, Othman stated that it will be formed after the upcoming federal parliamentary elections. On the other hand, Othman indicated that the recent oil agreement between Baghdad and the Kurdistan Region regarding oil exports via Turkey is good for both parties, but it has been delayed for several years. He expressed his hope that it will continue without problems.
