Maliki and Talabani Discuss Government Formation and Constitutional Responsibilities


Baghdad: Nouri al-Maliki, head of the State of Law Coalition, and Bafel Talabani, head of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), engaged in discussions on Sunday focusing on the importance of fulfilling constitutional requirements and forming a new government.



According to National Iraqi News Agency, al-Maliki’s media office released a press statement indicating that Nouri al-Maliki welcomed Bafel Talabani at his office for the meeting. The discussions centered on reviewing the political developments within the country and the necessity of meeting constitutional obligations to form a new government that would ensure the stability of the political process.



The statement elaborated that both leaders also addressed the issue of the three presidential positions-Presidency of the Republic, Prime Ministership, and Speaker of Parliament. They exchanged their differing views on the mechanisms for managing these roles in a manner that aligns with the constitutional framework and aims to achieve political stability.
