Baghdad: Procedures to shut down the "Korek Telecom" network are ongoing, as announced by the Media and Communications Commission (CMC). The commission is actively progressing with the steps necessary to halt operations of the telecom network.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the CMC issued a press release emphasizing its responsibility to regulate the telecommunications and information technology sector, protect subscriber rights, and enforce legal compliance. The commission cited Korek Telecom's contract expiration and breach of contractual obligations as grounds for the shutdown. Legal, financial, and administrative actions have already been initiated, including the imposition of a lien on Korek Telecom's assets.

The CMC has reaffirmed its commitment to executing all legal measures required to deactivate Korek Telecom's network components, equipment, and systems. This effort aligns with Order (65) of 2004 and other relevant legislation to ensure the enforcement of legal decisions against the company.

Additionally, the commission advises all individual Korek Telecom subscribers, as well as government and private institutions, to cease renewing subscriptions, topping up balances, or engaging in new service contracts. This step aims to prevent potential financial losses and legal complications arising from the impending suspension of the company's services.

Subscribers are urged to retain their SIM cards for safeguarding their rights, with further instructions to be provided through the CMC's official channels. The authority also plans to issue more detailed guidelines and timelines regarding these procedures, urging subscribers to stay informed via their official platforms.

The commission has also directed Korek Telecom employees and contractors to protect company assets and confidential information, warning against unauthorized data disclosure, which could lead to legal consequences.

Property owners hosting telecommunications towers are reminded of their legal responsibility to secure these assets and collaborate with authorities to prevent unauthorized access or equipment removal. This cooperation is crucial for safeguarding public interests and ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory mandates.
