Baghdad: The Media and Communications Commission in Iraq has enacted a one-year ban on Egyptian media personality Maha Al-Siraj, prohibiting her from appearing on both local and international media platforms operating within the country.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the decision was announced in a press release by the Commission, citing Legislative Order No. (65) of 2004 as the basis for their authority. The ban was prompted by a report from the Monitoring Department of the Media Regulation Directorate, which highlighted posts made by Maha Al-Siraj on her personal digital platforms, specifically Facebook and X. On August 21, 2026, Al-Siraj allegedly published content that included defamation, incitement against an Iraqi security institution, and the dissemination of misinformation, violating several articles of the Media Broadcasting Regulations.

The Commission specified that Al-Siraj’s posts breached multiple regulations, including prohibitions against incitement to violence and hatred, the spread of false and invalid material, and the requirement for accuracy, integrity, and transparency in information dissemination. As a result, the Commission has extended the ban to include all media outlets within Iraq for the duration of one year.

Furthermore, the Commission has warned that any media entities violating this ban by hosting Al-Siraj will face legal repercussions. The Commission is also coordinating with judicial authorities to ensure the enforcement of this decision, underlining the seriousness of the infractions and the commitment to uphold media regulations.
