Baghdad: The Media and Communications Commission has issued a warning to Korek Telecom users, advising them to add alternative phone numbers to their digital accounts. This move is aimed at safeguarding access to digital services and accounts, especially those that rely on phone numbers for authentication or login.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Commission emphasized the importance of Korek Telecom SIM card users taking proactive steps to protect their digital access. The advice is particularly pertinent for those using their numbers for authentication on social media, digital platforms, and other services. Users are urged to adopt several precautionary measures to ensure continued access and avoid potential disruptions.

The Commission advises users to add numbers from other licensed mobile operators in Iraq, such as Asiacell or Zain Iraq, to platforms that allow registration of multiple phone numbers. This additional number should be used for receiving verification codes and authentication messages. For platforms that do not permit multiple numbers, users are encouraged to update their verification number to one from Asiacell or Zain Iraq, while still retaining their Korek number.

Moreover, the Commission recommends activating alternative authentication methods like email or authenticator apps, reducing reliance on SMS for account access. Users should not delay in implementing these measures, as early action could prevent future login or recovery issues.

The statement clarified that these measures are not intended to encourage users to abandon their Korek numbers. Instead, they aim to provide secure access to digital accounts and protect user data and rights, especially in light of ongoing regulatory procedures concerning Korek Telecom.

The Commission remains committed to assisting users in securing their digital accounts while adhering to the legal and regulatory frameworks governing telecommunications in Iraq.
