Anbar: The Military Intelligence Directorate announced the thwarting of an attempt to smuggle 136,000 amphetamine pills via balloons in Anbar.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Directorate stated in a press release that, in a highly precise intelligence operation based on accurate information from its detachments and continuous monitoring via thermal cameras, detachments from the Intelligence and Security Department of the 5th Infantry Division thwarted an attempt to smuggle a dangerous shipment of narcotics. The attempt involved using a mysterious and unusual method: balloons equipped with GPS devices. These balloons, containing approximately 136,000 Captagon pills, were dropped in the Anbar desert with the aim of bypassing checkpoints and disrupting security monitoring.
It explained that the operation came after complex intelligence tracking and continuous monitoring of the movements of the involved elements, which enabled the directorate’s detachments to gain complete control of the shipment before its arrival and to thwart this new criminal method before it could become a recurring threat.
