Baghdad: The Minister of Education and Chairman of the Iraqi National Commission for Education, Culture and Science, Abdul Karim Abtan al-Jubouri, recently engaged in discussions with Alexandros Makarygasis, the Director of the UNESCO Iraq Office, focusing on expanding their partnership to enhance education and align its outcomes with labor market demands.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the minister emphasized UNESCO’s role as a strategic partner in implementing educational reform programs. He highlighted the necessity of expanding joint cooperation to adapt to global changes in the education sector. This expansion aims to develop the educational environment and improve the quality of educational outputs, aligning them with development requirements and labor market needs. The minister asserted that investing in education is fundamental to building both individuals and the state.

In response, the Director of the UNESCO Office shared the organization’s commitment to supporting the Ministry of Education’s priorities. He stressed the importance of continued cooperation in executing joint projects, particularly in the realms of quality and equitable education, educational reform, technical and vocational training, and improving access to inclusive education. They also deliberated on renewing and expanding the project aimed at supporting youth employment opportunities to encompass additional governorates.
