Doha:Commissioner of the Federal Commission of Integrity (FCOI), Mohammed Ali al-Lami, emphasized the cross-border nature of corruption and the need for coordinated international efforts to combat it.
According to Iraqi News Agency, the sixth session of the Conference of States Parties to the Arab Convention against Corruption began in Doha, Qatar, on Wednesday, September 23, 2026. This conference serves as the principal Arab platform for supporting and overseeing the implementation of the convention.
Hamad bin Nasser al-Misnad, President of Qatar’s Administrative Control and Transparency Authority, commenced the conference, during which Qatar assumed the presidency of the sixth session from Palestine.
Iraq participated in the event with a delegation led by FCOI chief Mohammed Ali al-Lami, who reiterated Iraq’s dedication to implementing the convention, which the country joined in 2012. Al-Lami delivered Iraq’s statement, focusing on national efforts to implement the Arab and United Nations conventions against corruption.
In his address, Al-Lami underscored Iraq’s belief in Arab cooperation to combat corruption, likening it to the fight against terrorism and diseases. He mentioned that the commission is progressing with the National Integrity and Anti-Corruption Strategy through 2030, aiming to enhance transparency, governance systems, and digital transformation.
Al-Lami stated that Iraq’s efforts extend beyond financial and investigative measures, emphasizing respect for human rights. Programs are aimed at various societal segments, especially the youth, to foster a culture of integrity.
Additionally, efforts include introducing a code of conduct for election officials to prevent state resource misuse and launching integrity charters with the involvement of social figures and leaders.
Regarding the recovery of funds and assets, Al-Lami highlighted it as a crucial focus of Iraq’s endeavors, urging other states to collaborate effectively to overcome hurdles in processing recovery requests.
Al-Lami concluded by reaffirming Iraq’s commitment to combating corruption through institutional independence, community partnership, and effective Arab and international cooperation.
The conference elected its bureau members, adopted its agenda, and produced several decisions from the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States, along with proposed decisions by states party to the convention.
The Federal Integrity Commission represents Iraq in fulfilling the obligations under the Arab and United Nations conventions against corruption, emphasizing cooperation, assistance exchange, and active participation in related forums and conferences.
