Baghdad: Minister of Justice Dr. Khalid Shawani affirmed on Wednesday the commitment to guaranteeing the rights of minors, taking into account both their material and moral needs. Underlining the significance of this commitment, Shawani highlighted efforts to amend the Minor Affairs Law to ensure comprehensive protection for minors.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the announcement was made during a ceremony organized by the Department of Minor Affairs at the Ministry of Justice. The event, held under the patronage of Minister Shawani and supervised by Director General Maitham Hamza Al-Waeli, celebrated outstanding minor students at the beginning of the academic year. The ceremony was attended by notable figures, including Burhan Mazhar Al-Qaisi, the Undersecretary of the Ministry for Administrative and Financial Affairs, and Youssef Huwaiz Khurshid, the Director General of the Notary Public Department.

In his address, Minister Shawani emphasized that the ministry is actively working to safeguard the rights of minors by drafting amendments to the Minor Affairs Law. These amendments aim to secure both the material and moral rights of minors, with a particular focus on addressing issues related to funds deposited during previous administrations. Shawani elaborated that the proposed changes include measures designed to protect and preserve the rights of minors, ensuring they receive the necessary care in all aspects.

The Minister called on the Department of Minor Affairs to intensify efforts in providing comprehensive care for minors. He stressed the importance of compensating minors for the extraordinary challenges they have faced, ensuring their well-being both materially and morally.

The ceremony concluded with the distribution of gifts to the outstanding students, recognizing their achievements and encouraging them to continue excelling in their studies. This gesture aimed to foster a spirit of perseverance and success among the young attendees.
