Baghdad: The Ministerial Council for National Security convened to discuss the current regional situation and the arrangements for the upcoming commemoration of Ashura. The meeting was led by Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, who also serves as the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the meeting included an extensive evaluation of the Zionist aggression against the Islamic Republic of Iran and its consequences. Security and military officials presented an in-depth analysis of recent developments, coupled with proposals to enhance military readiness. These proposals emphasized the importance of advancing air defense capabilities and maintaining diligent efforts in intelligence and cybersecurity.

Moreover, the council reviewed Iraq’s diplomatic initiatives during the period of aggression, which ultimately led to the agreement of a ceasefire. The National Center for Crisis and Disaster Management, in collaboration with the Ministries of Health and Trade and the Baghdad Operations Command, provided insights into the crisis response strategies.

Further discussions focused on the regional situation, addressing potential outcomes, and formulating immediate action plans to prevent any exploitation of the circumstances. The council emphasized the need to counter any efforts to incite sectarian tensions or promote hate speech, particularly on social media and other platforms.

Additionally, the council deliberated on the preparations for the Ashura commemoration, marking the martyrdom of Imam Hussein, a pivotal event observed on the tenth day of Muharram.
