Baghdad: Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani led the fourth meeting of the Ministerial Council for the Economy, focusing on strategies to increase financial revenues and decrease government expenditures. The meeting included participation from various ministers and key advisors.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Prime Minister’s Media Office released a statement detailing discussions aimed at formulating necessary decisions and recommendations. The emphasis was on safeguarding citizens’ interests, particularly ensuring that any changes do not negatively affect the purchasing power and living standards of vulnerable groups.
Additionally, the meeting examined ongoing tax reform discussions and reviewed Cabinet Resolution 822 of 2025. Efforts were also made to support mixed, public, and joint-stock companies to boost the national economy.
The Council evaluated reports from the Export Support Fund and considered a proposal for enhanced support through borrowing. This initiative aims to diversify income sources and reduce reliance on oil revenues by implementing the principle of lending from the Fund.
