Baghdad: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Planning, Mohammed Tamim, chaired the 30th session of the Ministerial Economic Council today, addressing key issues related to revenue maximization and industrial and commercial development.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the session included a review by the Minister of Water Resources on the state of the sector, alongside a discussion of the 2025-2026 winter agricultural season water plan. The ministry’s strategies for increasing non-oil revenues and contributing to the state’s general budget were also examined.

The Council explored a proposal from the Ministry of Trade aimed at establishing a commercial zone for agricultural products. This zone would serve as a hub for surplus export marketing, supporting agriculture and benefiting farmers financially. The Council expressed its support for this initiative, highlighting its potential to boost exports and national economic returns.

Further discussions involved the Iraqi Contractors Union, focusing on the status of the contracting sector and service projects. The Council committed to continuing its support for this sector by ensuring payment of contractors’ dues and assessing project completion rates. This step aims to maintain project continuity and enhance service delivery to citizens.

Additionally, the Council decided to authorize the General Directorate of Industrial Development to issue establishment licenses for a new facility dedicated to producing prime coat, asphalt, and industrial solvents. This decision aligns with Industrial Investment Law No. 20 of 1998, contingent on the Ministry of Oil’s supply of raw materials.
