Baghdad: The Ministry of Environment is embarking on a strategic partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) aimed at the period 2026-2030. Minister of Environment Sarwa Abdul Wahid engaged in a high-level strategic dialogue with the UNDP to enhance collaboration on environment, energy, and climate change, aligning with national priorities and addressing the environmental challenges Iraq faces.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Ministry revealed in a press release that both parties explored the proposed partnership strategy for 2026-2030. The discussions, attended by Ammar Al-Ata, Technical Advisor to the Ministry of Environment, along with other Ministry officials and UNDP representatives, focused on refining and adopting the strategy. They identified priority cooperation areas and worked on developing a practical roadmap to transition from planning to executing impactful programs and projects.

The statement highlighted the Minister’s emphasis on establishing a long-term institutional partnership with the UNDP. This partnership aims to bolster the Ministry’s efforts in tackling environmental and climate challenges while promoting sustainable development.

The statement further noted the agreement to maintain coordination and finalize the necessary technical procedures for approving and implementing the partnership strategy in the coming years.
