Baghdad: The Ministry of Finance announced the completion of the implementation mechanism for the prepayment of customs duties. According to National Iraqi News Agency, Finance Minister Faleh Sari chaired a meeting dedicated to finalizing the implementation mechanism for Cabinet Resolution No. 413 of 2026, concerning the application of prepayment of customs duties.

The meeting discussed the technical, financial, and organizational procedures and requirements necessary for implementing the resolution, in addition to mechanisms for linking and integrating relevant entities. It resulted in the completion of the implementation mechanism for prepayment, in accordance with the ASYCUDA system and approved electronic payment systems.

The Minister emphasized the necessity of implementing the mechanism according to clear and organized procedures, which will enhance the governance of customs operations, ensure the accurate collection of state dues, and maximize non-oil revenues. The statement explained that the completion of the implementation mechanism comes within the Ministry of Finance’s directives to automate customs procedures, reduce evasion and manipulation, expedite transactions, and simplify procedures.

The meeting was attended by the Governor of the Central Bank of Iraq, Nizar Nasser Hussein, the Director General of the General Authority of Customs, Thamer Qasim Dawood, the Director General of the Investment Department, the Assistant Director General of the General Authority of Taxes, and a representative from the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD).
