Baghdad: The Ministry of Justice has announced the installation of 240 telephone booths at Taji Central Prison. This initiative is part of efforts to enhance communication between inmates and their families.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Ministry of Justice stated that the installation of the booths is in line with directives from Justice Minister Khalid Shawani. The initiative aims to strengthen humanitarian and rehabilitative standards within correctional institutions. The phone booths, installed in cooperation with the Ministry of Communications, are intended to support direct communication between inmates and their families, adhering to human rights principles and enhancing rehabilitation programs.

The ministry's statement emphasized that this development complements previous measures, such as the installation of communication devices within the prison sections. Organized schedules have been adopted to ensure that all inmates have an opportunity to communicate with their families smoothly and fairly, contributing to regulated usage within the prison.

Jalal Abbas, the director of Taji Central Prison, confirmed the project's implementation aligns with the directives of Justice Minister Khalid Shawani. It is part of the ministry's plan to develop the correctional environment and improve the humanitarian aspects of inmate communication with their families, meeting both national and international standards for managing correctional institutions.
