Ministry of Labor to Expand Community Rehabilitation Program to Five Governorates

Baghdad: Following its success in Baghdad, the Ministry of Labor is preparing to expand its community rehabilitation program to five new governorates. According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Commission for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and Special Needs at the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs announced a plan to expand the Community-Based Rehabilitation Program to include five new governorates.

The Ministry stated in a press release: “Following the success of the pilot program in Baghdad, and in cooperation with the Ministries of Health and Education, the Commission’s Chairperson, Dhikra Abdul Rahim, held a meeting with the Community-Based Rehabilitation Program team to review the results of the previous phase, highlight its key outcomes, and discuss mechanisms for expanding its implementation.”

The Chairperson directed that the Ministries of Health and Education, as well as the Commission’s branches in the governorates of Basra, Nineveh, Kirkuk, Babylon, and Dhi Qar, be contacted to nominate qualified personnel and form joint committees to conduct field visits and launch the program in the targeted governorates as a preliminary phase before its gradual rollout to the rest of Iraq.

The program aims to organize direct field visits to persons with disabilities, providing guidance and awareness regarding their rights, thereby facilitating their access to government services and enhancing their social integration.
