Baghdad:The Ministry of Oil is intensifying its efforts to develop fields and accelerate exploration and production operations as part of a strategic plan to boost Iraq’s oil production.

According to the National Iraqi News Agency, the Ministry, under the directives of Oil Minister Basim Khudair Al-Abadi, is working to execute plans to increase crude oil production capacities, with a goal to double them over the coming years. This involves developing oil fields and expediting exploration, development, and production activities.

At a recent meeting, attended by Ministry department heads, national oil companies, and international representatives, Undersecretary Naseer Aziz Jabbar emphasized the need for a clear vision and integrated implementation pathways to meet production targets exceeding 10 million barrels per day. He called for identifying challenges, devising solutions, and preparing actionable plans with specific timelines to enhance Iraq’s production capabilities and its global market standing.

The Undersecretary highlighted the significance of launching new licensing rounds to develop exploration blocks and oil and gas fields as a means to increase reserves and future production. He stressed the necessity of collaboration between national and international entities, leveraging the expertise and experience within the Iraqi oil sector to refine operations and accelerate program implementation.

Furthermore, he directed that facilities and requirements be provided to enable companies to execute investment programs on schedule, reaffirming the Oil Minister’s support and oversight in overcoming obstacles and expediting project implementation. He praised the achievements in exploration activities, from data evaluation to well drilling and resource development, which have strengthened Iraq’s reserves and future production capacities.
