Baghdad: The Ministry of Planning announced today the import of more than 28 tons of gold through Baghdad and Najaf International Airports during the period from October 2023 until the end of December 2024.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Fayadh Al-Dulaimi, Head of the Central Organization for Standardization and Quality Control, stated that the imported quantities amounted to 28 tons and 298 kilograms. He noted that four tons entered the country in the last quarter of 2023, while imports in 2024 alone exceeded 24 tons.

Al-Dulaimi added that the Jewelry Department at the organization, following the inauguration of inspection units at both airports under a Cabinet decision, conducted testing and hallmarking for all imported quantities. This process generated revenues exceeding 5 billion and 536 million dinars.

The statement emphasized that the Central Organization for Standardization and Quality Control is the sole official authority authorized to test and hallmark gold jewelry, grant licenses for
practicing the goldsmith profession, and record gold exports from Iraq. It was confirmed that no gold exports were registered during the reported period.
