Baghdad: The General Company for Foodstuff Trading at the Ministry of Trade has successfully reclaimed more than $60 million through a legal battle.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the company’s general manager, Luma Al-Moussawi, announced the recovery as part of the company’s ongoing efforts to align with the government’s program to combat corruption and safeguard public funds. The company won a lawsuit against Attar General Trading Company at the Baghdad/Rusafa Court of Appeal, which mandated the return of the funds following final judicial decisions.
Al-Moussawi highlighted the significant work carried out by the company’s legal affairs department in retrieving the funds. She also acknowledged the role of the impartial Iraqi judiciary in taking necessary measures to curb manipulation and wastage of public funds.
