Karbala: The Ministry of Water Resources has announced the successful implementation of its service and engineering plan designed to support the Arba'een pilgrimage of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him) in Karbala.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Director General of the General Authority for Groundwater, Maitham Ali Khudair, who is responsible for the ministry's service efforts in Karbala, confirmed the establishment of a central operations room at the Water Resources Directorate. This facility, part of the General Authority for the Operation of Irrigation and Drainage Projects, was set up to monitor performance and coordinate activities among various formations.

Khudair highlighted that the plan focused on securing water releases from the Hindiya Dam to the Bani Hassan Canal and the Husseiniya River. This effort, in collaboration with the National Center for Water Resources, aimed to ensure that water treatment plants operated at full capacity without interruption.

Additionally, the ministry launched a campaign to clear rivers and canals of debris and water hyacinth. Machinery was deployed at regulators and iron grates to alleviate water congestion along the pilgrims' routes. The efforts also included providing drinking water and logistical support, achieved by operating 48 water tankers along the main routes in coordination with the Karbala Water Directorate. Furthermore, 40 wells on the Karbala-Najaf route were rehabilitated and maintained to secure raw water for the Husseini processions.

To facilitate the movement of pilgrims, Khudair noted that 24 buses were added to the Babylon route. This initiative aimed to reduce congestion at the main entrance for pilgrims arriving from the southern provinces.
