Baghdad: The head of the Taqaddum Party, Mohammed al-Halbousi, met on Monday with US Special Envoy Tom Barrack to discuss avenues for strengthening bilateral relations, enhancing economic cooperation, and continuing coordination in the fight against terrorism.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the meeting addressed prospects for expanding cooperation between Iraq and the United States, particularly in the economic sphere, alongside ongoing joint efforts to combat terrorism.
The two sides also reviewed the latest regional developments, with particular focus on the situation in Syria and recent steps taken there.
Discussions underscored the importance of continued cooperation on security matters, including issues related to detainees and prisoners.
Both parties affirmed their support for Syria’s stability and reiterated US backing for Iraq’s efforts to reinforce its security and autonomy.
For his part, the US envoy highlighted Iraq’s ongoing pursuit of a sovereign, stable, and prosperous future aligned with shared interests between Baghdad and Washington.
He stressed the importance of forming a government that meets the Iraqi people’s aspirations for stability, economic recovery, and strengthened national autonomy, free from regional interference, and capable of safeguarding Iraq and the interests of its citizens.
