Gaza: The government media office in the Gaza Strip has unveiled the severe hardships faced by women in the region, particularly highlighted on International Women’s Day.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Salama Maarouf, head of the government media office, issued a statement emphasizing the dire circumstances women endure due to the continuous conflict.

Maarouf stated, “We remind the international community, which is celebrating women’s rights today, of the massacres of the Zionist occupation against women during the war of extermination in Gaza.” The statistics he provided are stark, revealing that 12,316 women have been martyred by the occupation, 13,901 women have been widowed, 17,000 mothers have lost their children, and 50,000 pregnant women have given birth under inhumane conditions.

Further detailed by Maarouf, 162,000 women have contracted infectious diseases, and 2,000 women and girls are facing disabilities due to limb amputations. He also drew attention to the plight of detained women, mentioning, “Dozens of women have been arrested and tortured in detention centers.”

International Women’s Day, celebrated globally on March 8th each year, is a day to honor women’s achievements across various spheres of life. Yet, the situation in Gaza presents a stark contrast to the general celebratory tone of this day, as the ongoing conflict continues to impact the lives of countless women.
