Baghdad: The MP of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, Najwa Hamid Kakai, has confirmed the ongoing political disputes among different blocs concerning the general amnesty and personal status laws. Despite being scheduled for a vote at the beginning of the current legislative session, these contentious laws remain unresolved due to persistent disagreements, preventing a quorum from being achieved for the session.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Kakai emphasized that the passage of these controversial laws requires political consensus among the blocs prior to any voting session. She noted that this consensus is yet to be reached, leading to the delays and the continuing impasse in the legislative process.

In contrast, Kakai pointed out that there is unanimous agreement among the political blocs regarding the draft amendment to the unified retirement law. The amendment proposes raising the retirement age for employees from 60 to 63 years, a change that is widely supported as it benefits a significant portion of the workforce. The overarching aim is to enact laws that serve the interests of the Iraqi people.
