Muqtada al-Sadr Boycotts Elections to Combat Corruption


Baghdad: The leader of the Sadrist Movement, Muqtada al-Sadr, has declared that his decision to boycott the elections is aimed at saving the nation from corruption. He emphasized that his stance is rooted in ‘obedience to God, His Messenger, and the leaders of reform.’

According to National Iraqi News Agency, al-Sadr clarified his decision in a recent statement, acknowledging the difficulties associated with boycotting the elections. He stated that his choice was made in obedience to divine guidance and the directives of righteous reform leaders. Al-Sadr expressed that his actions are driven by a desire for reform and a disassociation from the corrupt practices of his adversaries.

Al-Sadr further articulated that his boycott is a reflection of the trust he places in his followers and the Iraqi people, who he believes share his commitment to reform over worldly gains. He praised the dedication of those who prioritize national interests over personal desires.

In a gesture of unity, al-Sadr addressed all fact
ions of the Iraqi populace, including Shiites, Sunnis, and other minorities, acknowledging their collective effort in prioritizing the nation’s welfare. He criticized those who he claims have compromised national interests to foreign influences.

Al-Sadr concluded by extending greetings to reform advocates and reaffirming the importance of national integrity over succumbing to corrupt influences.
