Baghdad: National Security Service detachments seized six trucks loaded with smuggled goods and arrested eight suspects in northern Baghdad and Salah al-Din.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Service stated in a press release that the two operations were executed following the monitoring of an economic smuggling case, with judicial approvals obtained from the competent judge of the Service. The operations involved setting up well-planned ambushes in Baghdad, which led to the seizure of two trucks. One truck was discovered to be carrying large quantities of human medicines, cleverly concealed under cleaning materials. The other truck was found to be loaded with smuggled cigarettes.

The statement further detailed the seizure of four additional trucks in Salah al-Din. These trucks were on route from the Kurdistan Region to Baghdad. Two of the trucks were carrying 97 containers of engine oil, while the other two were loaded with 3,226 cartons of smuggled cigarettes, which were hidden under foodstuffs to avoid detection.

The suspects, along with the seized goods, have been handed over to the competent authorities to complete the necessary legal procedures against them.
