Nechirvan Barzani Expresses Concern Over Continued Clashes in Syria

Erbil: Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani expressed concern about the continued clashes in Syria, while calling on the international coalition to fulfill its duty and prevent the resurgence of ISIS.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Barzani stated, “We in the Kurdistan Region view with great concern the continued clashes and military confrontations between the Syrian regime forces and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).” He highlighted that the ongoing conflict presents a serious threat to the security and stability of Syria and the wider region, fostering conditions that could allow ISIS to re-emerge.

Barzani emphasized the importance of dialogue, saying, “Since the beginning of the outbreak of tensions, we have been in continuous contact with regional and international parties to stop the war and clashes, and to adopt a language of dialogue and understanding for a peaceful solution to the problems.” He warned that military confrontations would only complicate the situation further.

The President urged the international coalition to uphold its commitments to maintaining stability and curbing ISIS’s resurgence. He expressed readiness to offer necessary support to end the conflict and achieve a ceasefire. Moreover, Barzani underlined the importance of safeguarding the rights of Kurds and other communities in Syria, advocating for their inclusion in the future Syrian constitution.
