Mosul: The Nineveh Antiquities and Heritage Inspectorate recently participated in a strategic meeting aimed at enhancing tourism opportunities in the region, specifically focusing on the development of waterfalls and the potential investment in Nimrud forests. The meeting, held with the Deputy Governor of Nineveh for Technical Affairs, Khalid Abdulkarim Al-Obaidi, was attended by key figures including Ruwaid Muwaffaq, the Inspector of Antiquities and Heritage of Nineveh, and Alaa Amer, Head of the Investigations Unit.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the discussions centered on developing the tourist city of Al-Shalal and exploring the feasibility of establishing a tourist facility in the Nimrud Forests. Ruwaid Muwaffaq highlighted the importance of integrating archaeological and heritage considerations into tourism development plans. He stressed the necessity of involving archaeological experts during planning and implementation phases to protect archaeological sites, preserve their historical value, and leverage these resources to enhance the tourism sector in Nineveh.

A specialized technical committee was established during the meeting to oversee the requirements for rehabilitating and developing the Nimrud Waterfalls and to evaluate the tourism potential of the Nimrud Forests. The initiative aims to revitalize tourism and boost Nineveh’s cultural heritage while ensuring the preservation of its historical sites.
