Nineveh Governor Engages Companies for Mosul International Airport Activation

Mosul: Nineveh Governor Abdul Qadir al-Dakhil confirmed that negotiations are underway with specialized operating companies to activate Mosul International Airport, noting that the airport will become fully international in the near future.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Al-Dakhil stated that “the airport has witnessed remarkable development in recent times thanks to the great efforts made by governmental and local authorities.” He added, “The visit of Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani last week was pivotal in accelerating these steps, as he reviewed the progress of work at the airport and affirmed his full support for transforming it into an international airport with international standards.”

He explained that “the steps currently underway include rehabilitating the infrastructure and providing the necessary services to ensure the safe and efficient handling of international flights,” stressing that “the airport will work to enhance tourism and the economy in Mosul and the governorate in general.”

He pointed out that “this project will contribute significantly to facilitating air traffic and providing new job opportunities for the people of Nineveh,” noting that the international airport will be a major attraction for investments from local and international companies.

During his recent visit to Mosul, Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani directed that Mosul Airport operate only domestic flights starting November 1st, to other Iraqi airports, pending the completion of procedures for contracting with the airport’s operating company.

Al-Dakhil explained that this decision comes within the framework of the government’s keenness to accelerate the operation of the airport and reconnect Nineveh to the rest of the governorates, stressing that this step paves the way for the start of international flights soon after the completion of all technical and administrative requirements.
