Nineveh: Member of Parliament for Nineveh Governorate, Mansour Al-Muraeed, has issued a warning about a looming “environmental catastrophe” in the Qayyarah district of southern Nineveh Governorate. This comes in response to reports of attempts to transport and bury chemical waste from outside the governorate into agricultural lands intended for farming and livestock.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Al-Muraeed stated that suspicious parties are attempting to move hazardous chemical waste to agricultural regions in Qayyarah. This situation poses a significant threat to the health of citizens, as well as the integrity of the soil and groundwater in the area.

Al-Muraeed emphasized his commitment to taking all necessary legal actions to identify and expose those responsible for this operation. He declared that any effort to introduce or bury chemical materials in Nineveh lands constitutes a serious environmental crime that will not be overlooked.

He further urged regulatory and security authorities to act swiftly to prevent the entry of any suspicious shipments into the governorate. Additionally, he called on the Ministry of Environment to dispatch specialized teams to assess the situation and take appropriate measures.
