Baghdad: Nominations for the Al Owais Cultural Award in Dubai have officially closed, marking the conclusion of the selection process for its 20th cycle, which will take place from 2026 to 2027. The prestigious award, known for its independent and impartial nature, continues to recognize outstanding contributions in the fields of poetry, short story, novel, playwriting, literary and critical studies, humanistic and future studies, and an Achievement Award.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Sultan Bin Ali Al Owais Award divides its recognitions into five distinct categories. While the first four categories are subject to a judging process, the Achievement Award is uniquely decided by the Foundation's Board of Trustees. This award is given to a cultural, scientific, or public figure, or an institution that has made a significant impact on cultural life.

The award emphasizes creative merit without considering political leanings, intellectual beliefs, race, religion, or gender. Totaling US$750,000, with US$150,000 allocated to each category, the award encourages and honors Arab writers, authors, thinkers, and scientists, acknowledging their role in advancing culture, literature, and science in the Arab world.

In its previous cycle, the award recognized the talents of Iraqi novelist Inam Kachachi and Iraqi poet Hamid Saeed, highlighting the significant achievements of Arab intellectuals.
