Oil Ministry Announces the Start of Trial Operations at North 2 and Salah al-Din 3 Refineries


Baghdad: The Ministry of Oil announced today the start of the initial phases of trial operations at the North 2 and Salah al-Din 3 refineries, each with a capacity of 70,000 barrels per day.



According to National Iraqi News Agency, Adnan Muhammad Hammoud, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Oil for Refining Affairs, stated in a ministry announcement that this marks a significant strategic accomplishment for Iraq’s refining sector in recent years. The combined refining capacity of these refineries stands at 140,000 barrels per day.



Hammoud emphasized that the operation of the new refineries is in line with the government and Ministry of Oil’s vision to boost national refining capacities. This move is aimed at achieving self-sufficiency in high-quality petroleum products and plans to export the surplus to global markets, thereby supporting the national economy and enhancing Iraq’s position in the regional and global energy market.



He further noted that the implementation and operation of these refineries were managed entirely by Iraqi personnel, showcasing their expertise and capability to complete major projects adhering to high technical standards.
