Oil Prices Rise Amid Anticipation of US-China Trade Talks Outcome

London: Oil prices rose on Tuesday amid anticipation of the outcome of trade talks between the United States and China, which could pave the way for easing trade tensions and boosting fuel demand. Brent crude futures rose 12 cents to $67.16 a barrel, while US West Texas Intermediate crude rose 13 cents to $65.42, after hitting its highest level since April 4 earlier in the session.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, high-level trade talks between US and Chinese officials continued in London for a second day, with discussions covering issues ranging from tariffs to restrictions on rare earth minerals. The potential for a trade agreement between the two countries is seen as a positive sign for the global economic outlook, which in turn would boost demand for commodities, including oil.
