Order of Arrest Issued for Former Salahuddin Official Over Fuel Fund Embezzlement

Baghdad:Salahuddin The Federal Integrity Commission announced the issuance of an arrest warrant for a former official in the accounts department of Salahuddin province. This action follows allegations of the official’s embezzlement of approximately three billion dinars allocated for generator fuel supplies. Additionally, there has been a noted waste of public funds due to medical equipment supplied to Tuz Hospital that were unnecessary and left uninstalled.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the commission’s investigation and audit team from the Salahuddin Investigation Office uncovered that the former official appropriated a sum of two billion and 975 million dinars intended for fuel supplies for various projects and departments.

The commission further reported that the accused received the funds from the fuel procurement committee, claiming the governor had authorized the transaction, but subsequently refused to return the money. Consequently, the Salahuddin Investigation Court’s judge specialized in integrity cases has issued an arrest warrant under the provisions of Article 316 of the Penal Code.

In a separate matter, the commission identified public fund wastage within the Salahuddin Health Department. This was due to the procurement of medical equipment for Tuz Hospital, which were unnecessary and left uninstalled, risking deterioration. Furthermore, there were delays in completing supply contracts.

The commission detailed that the equipment included five blood-drawing chairs, five electrocardiogram machines, one laboratory incubator, and three centrifuges. The investigation team has documented the contract details in an official report.

The commission affirmed that investigations are ongoing to identify those responsible for the wastage, in conjunction with contacting the Salahuddin Financial Control Directorate to assess the financial damage from the equipment procurement.
