Baghdad: First Deputy Speaker of Parliament Mohsen Al-Mandalawi has announced that the Council of Representatives commenced amendments to the Teacher Protection Law at the beginning of this year.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Al-Mandalawi’s media office released a statement confirming that he met with the President of the Iraqi Teachers Syndicate, Uday Hatem Al-Issawi, accompanied by MPs Salah Zini and Qahtan Al-Moussawi. The meeting focused on discussing the proposed amendments to the Law on the Protection of Teachers, Instructors, Supervisors, and Educational Counselors No. 8 of 2018.

Al-Mandalawi extended an invitation to the President of the Teachers Syndicate to attend a special parliamentary session today, where the demands of educators will be addressed. He emphasized his commitment to fulfilling these demands within the legislative framework. He reiterated that the Council had initiated the amendment process earlier this year, aiming to finalize and vote on it swiftly, ensuring the protection of educators’ rights and enhancing their societal role.

In response, the head of the Teachers’ Syndicate expressed gratitude to Al-Mandalawi for championing the amendment to the Teachers’ Law and for his persistent efforts in addressing educational matters. He appreciated the Council Presidency’s dedication to discussing educators’ requests, highlighting the legislative authority’s commitment to supporting this vital sector.
